Favourite games of 2019

The Year of the Remakes

2019 started off amazing, the first half of the year saw some of the best games in years to come out. But when compared to last year: Best Games of 2018, it has been quite a weak year. That being said, I still didn’t play all the games I wanted to play, which were:

Man from Medan

Kingdom Hearts 3

This year also saw some of the best video game remakes of all time. Next year (before the new console generation comes) has some very interesting games coming out and I’m hoping it’s better than this year. Now, here are…

The Best Games of the Year

Medievil was a fun remake and one of the few games I’ve actually platinumed. It took everything that worked with the original and improved on the things that didn’t. The only thing that was a bit of a bummer is that the dark atmosphere of the original was missing. The new game still looked like something out of Tim Burton’s dreams, but it lacks the dark and scary tone of the original.

SCORE: 8/10

I am more nostalgiac for the original Crash Team Racing than any other racing game. Nitro-Fueled improved on the original in every way, combining all of the original games and combining them into one great package. I would have liked an upgrade on the story mode, but it was still a very fun game with a ton of content.

SCORE: 8.2/10

Devil May Cry is one of my favourite game series of all time, which you can see here: Top 5 Favourite Game Series of all Time. The series has had a lot of ups and downs, DMC5 for me was a great game, that just felt a little all too similar. I wanted them to bring back the dark tone of the original DMC, but they didn’t. It was a fun game, I just think it could have been so much better.

SCORE: 8.5/10

I haven’t finished this game yet, but from what I have played, it is a fun RPG, similar to the vein of Fallout New Vegas. There is something that I just prefer about New Vegas though, that I cannot put my finger on yet, but I will decide on the full game once I have completed it, but what I have played so far, it definitely deserves a spot on this list.

SCORE: 8.5/10

Another game I haven’t finished, but for completely different reasons. Sekiro is one of the most challenging games I have ever played (bear in mind I have completed all of the Souls series previous titles at least once) and I am unfortunately stuck. The gameplay is what separates this from any other game, it is so tight and solid, it has actually trumped Bloodborne’s combat. I am quite late into the game though and it is a masterpiece, just a very difficult one.

SCORE: 9/10

Image result for mortal kombat 11

Mortal Kombat is my favourite series of all time. MK 11 felt like a celebration of this, including nearly all of our favourite characters and with a story mode which captured everything we love about the series. The amount of content that is unlockable is insane and this is now my second favourite Mortal Kombat game of all time.

SCORE: 9.5/10

Image result for resident evil 2

I honestly don’t think there are any other contenders. Resident Evil 2 Remake is a masterpiece. It is everything we have wanted for years and more. The game has been created with all the attention to detail and love that anyone could have done and the DLC was free! This kicked off the year in a big way and nothing has really come close to it in terms of sheer quality and overall enjoyment. I’m so happy that the Resident Evil series is back in full form and I cannot wait for the Resident Evil 3 remake next year.

SCORE: 9.8/10
