5 Times A Non-Horror Family Movie Scared Me Half To Death

If you read one of my older posts MY TOP 10 FAVOURITE HORROR FILMS OF ALL TIME you will probably know that I’m a horror junkie and it takes a lot for a movie or TV show to scare me. I grew up on these horror films, but as a kid, there were movies which were not in the genre of horror in the slightest, but still gave me nightmares. Here are five times a non-horror family movie scared me half to death.

Muppet Treasure Island: {SCENE} BLIND PEW AND THE BLACK SPOT

Watching this scene now I wonder why this ever scared me in the first place. As a kid though this scene petrified me and gave me nightmares which I still remember today. As a kid you don’t really know why some things scare you, they just do. Maybe it was because he gave the pirate the black spot which killed him, or him being creepy and blind,  touching people just creeped me out, but this scene definitely got fast forwarded on most occasions on my VCR.

Toy Story : {SCENE} SID’S TOYS

Toy Story was just a family-friendly comedy, then all of a sudden towards the end of the movie we go into Sid’s room. The boy you have seen torturing all the toys in the garden, suddenly we see the full extent of his horrible ways. The one that always creeped me out as a child was the baby with the missing eye and the spider legs and I’m sure most kids were frightened from this part of the family favourite film.

Who Framed Roger Rabbit?:  {SCENE} JUDGE DOOM GOES NUTS

OMG! This scene in Who Framed Roger Rabbit? petrified me! Judge Doom was a spooky character throughout the film, then all of a sudden he goes absolutely crazy and those eyes felt like they were staring into your soul! I would always close my eyes whenever this scene would come on as a kid and even now it gives me the shivers.

BATMAN RETURNS: {SCENE} PENGUIN’S DEATH

A Tim Burton movie had to land on this post somewhere. I was debating whether Joker’s death scene from Batman or some scenes from Beetlejuice should make the cut. The reason this scene beats out from those two is the fact that Beetlejuice is kind of a horror movie, just a comedic one and Penguin’s disturbing death scene was just so violent for superhero movies of the time. The character overall was just a disturbing villain, but the way he dies is just so violent and creepy it scared poor little me ALOT!

THE WITCHES: {SCENE} THE WITCHES SHOW THEIR FACES

Now, this scene deserves to be on the scariest scenes of all time, not just of non-horror family movies. This scene is forever engrained in my memories, the point where we see what the witches actually look like and we see those disgusting makeup effects, it gave me many sleepless nights. Roald Dahl was famous for his kid’s books and their dark undertones, but wow this scene was just something else.

NOW YOU ALL KNOW THAT I WAS A MASSIVE WUSS WHEN I WAS A KID, BUT LET’S NOT LIE, YOU WERE ALL SCARED FROM ALL THESE SCENES AS CHILDREN AND PROBABLY STILL ARE! THANK YOU FOR READING, PLEASE LIKE, COMMENT AND FOLLOW!
